Video: Fatal Lucciauno "E. Cherry St." Freestyle + "Dr. Love MP3" http://www.northwesthiphop.com/forum/discussion/350/video-fatal-lucciauno-e.-cherry-st.-freestyle-dr.-love-mp3 Fri, 09 Mar 2012 00:10:20 -0700 Sportn'Life Records 350@/forum/discussions
Heralded for his gritty and reality-driven street raps, of which show up throughout large portions of Respect and The Message, this latest single showcases Fatal's versatility, with a track that, as he says, "is more for the ladies than the fellas." And while "Dr. Love" delivers a lighter vibe, as with all of Fatal's music, the message runs deep. "Sex is one thing," warns Fatal, "but to really feel alive, wanted, and loved, you need to weed through the crap that surrounds people in nightclubs."

The song, produced by frequent collaborator MTK, pulls in some soulful, R&B-tinged vocals, and also features a verse from a newcomer to the rap game, one whom Fatal has been building with for a while now. "The other voice featured is my little brother, his name is I AM," reveals Fatal. "He’s the greatest rap artist to never hit the light of day – he’s my secret weapon."

“On ‘Black Hoody Rap,’ I was very angry and just wanted to lash out on all comers, new and old,” says Fatal, who mercilessly rips through the track with lyrics like, “I love no apes or chimpanzees/ With the wolves in the zoo is where you’ll find me.” Helping Fatal get his point across is Spac3man, a fellow Seattle wordsmith and Sportn' Life Records label mate who “came in and got straight to the point,” on this track.

Producer BeanOne mobilized an arsenal of strings, ranging from wailing guitar riffs to dramatic violins to seductive acoustic plucking, all matching the tone of Fatal's and Spac3man’s lyrics. “BeanOne is the master behind the beat,” says Fatal. “He knew what I was feeling and capitalized on it.” For those old and new comers out there who listen to “Black Hoody Rap” and still aren’t getting the hint, Fatal Lucciauno has just one thing to say: “Stay in your lane and beware, because the real ones are tired of playing nice.”

"Reflections" takes a hard look at the duality of a person; the contradictions between how they see themselves and how other people see them. "I asked The Good Sin if he could imagine being himself through someone else's eyes," explains Fatal when asked about the inspiration behind the song. "I wanted to focus on that concept as much as possible, and stay as true to it as I could." Fatal succeeded, weaving introspective, soulful lyrics over MTK's deliberate, keyboard-driven beat.

The result is a song with a strong message to anyone who's ever stared into a mirror, trying to see through to the other side. "Stop lying to yourself," remarks Fatal. "We all have two sides to ourselves and this is a good thing. If we can see that our reflection is what people see, then we are all looking at the world in the same way."

[FREE E.P.] Fatal Lucciauno & Jake One "The Message" http://www.northwesthiphop.com/forum/discussion/346/free-e.p.-fatal-lucciauno-jake-one-the-message Mon, 06 Feb 2012 11:25:23 -0700 Sportn'Life Records 346@/forum/discussions
For Fatal, The Message EP serves as his most personal work to date, showcasing a collection of stories that show listeners a deeper side of Fatal. "I poured my soul onto the songs," explains Fatal. "The have-nots, the hustlers - we have real stories that transcend pain and beauty, and this music is a bridge to the new me." In keeping with the personal nature of the EP, Fatal chose to keep features to a minimum. "If the person I had on the song wasn't emotionally capable of reaching into their soul," notes Fatal, "they aren't on the EP."

Jake One handles production for the EP, and the chemistry that the two developed while working on "Amazing (the lead single from Respect), is on full display throughout. "Working with Jake is the best; he don't require shit, just that I be creative and honest in my music," explains Fatal. "The Message couldn't be illustrated without Jake One's help." And that message, says Fatal, is, "We are here - and we ain't going nowhere." But there's more to the message than that, remarks Fatal, "and if you listen, you'll hear it."

"The song is about the love of the down ass sistas from my hood, and those across the country that believe in what I believe," explains Fatal. "It's a true revolution through disciple love – it sounds weird, but for those that know, they know." Atop the Kuddie Fresh instrumental, a staggered, synth- and guitar-laden affair, Fatal raps, "Oh yea they women, but these women just like me," while the hook serves as the song's caveat, with Fatal warning, "I know she thick folks/ But I ain't trying to hit those/ Front if you want and get slumped over, big bro."

Fatal Lucciauno's sophomore album, Respect, will be released on February 21st via Sportn' Life Records.

CAM THE VIKING

Q&A's
------
What is your name, what do you go by?

Cameron Torvik aka Cam The Viking

Where in the puget sound do you reside?

Tumwater, but I'm everywhere with the mobile studio.

What artists would you say have been your biggest influence on your current music?

KRS ONE, Afrika Bambata, Andre Nickatina, The Temptations, GrandMaster Flash,Tech N9ne, Moody Blues, Lupe Fiasco, Led Zepplin, Abom Kid, Living Legends, Pink Floyd, MGK, UGK, Brotha Lynch Hung, Lost Soul the E-Mo Kat, Macklemore, AR Mastermind, Immortal Technique, Adele, People under the Stairs, Josh Rizeberg, Rage against The Machine, Zion I, Awall aka 2Piece, Goodie Mob, Royce da 5'9, Mae, Bonobo, Wu-Tang........& every terrible song I hear on the radio!!

There's plenty of talent in the NW. What do you think a puget sound artist needs to do in order to gain a record deal?

Thats the Golden Question, If I knew the answer I would have one myself. But my plan at this point is to network through shows and collab tracks here in the NW and build a proper reputaion and friend/fan base here, and try and setup or jump on a tour that travels at least down to cali and have the proper websites and product for that one show that you catch the proper eyes/ears and they see what you got.
The key for that theory to work is too bring everything you got every show and every verse whether there is 5 people or 500 listening. It's really not the goal yet to get signed in my world though, I really enjoy every step of this Hip Hop world, and I jumped in late so I might not ever get signed Im fine with making music with no pressure or deadlines or someone telling me to change my lyrics and beats.

Where is the best places to get people to hear your music? (ex; live, online)

A Live show with the Gonzo Family!!! I promise after seeing our passion and energy in the flesh people will understand how much we love what we do, and with all the music out there I think its very hard to be heard unless you build a friendship with an artist/fan, and my favorite part of a show is after the performance when I get a chance to thank everyone and chop it up. Im the only Cam The Viking so you can google me!!

www.youtube.com/camtheviking & www.soundcloud.com/camtheviking & www.reverbnation.com/camtheviking

Would you ever bring your grandparents, young children to one of your shows? What would be their reaction?

My sisters love seeing me perform and I love it when they can make it. My mom wants to see me perform but I worry about lyric content and also some of the other performances and their content. But my whole family supports me and loves that It makes me very happy. We do the We Out Here Showcase once a month because it is All Ages and we tone down the lyrics for the little Gonzos.

How do you think people would respond to northwest music going nationwide?

With a refreshing sigh of relief that at least some people are still following the basic elements of Hip Hop. I really hope Macklemore can do it honestly, love him or hate him his lyrics are real and he is starting to break through....I just hope he stays true I can see what the evil of fame and money can do to an artist.

Why did you submit this particular track to the Puget Sound Mixtape?

First off it was an honor to have Awall aka 2Piece show interest in my music. And even though its a "Mixtape" I made this beat myself and I get great feedback on it. Plus I made a video for It to give people a chance to see how we work in the studio. http://youtu.be/Pms5sieMlOw

Do you have any shout-outs you want to give out?

Sic Ill for putting on the mixtape, Mae, Abom, Lost Soul, Mastermind, Nuvo, Skrilla, Awall, Rizeberg, Rob Spruill, Greg G, Mike G, Castro, Thunderchief, Shao Sosa, Illizm, B Dub, Enas Nimi, Yak Nasty, Serious Mak, J-Money, NW Royalty, The Krisis, Tak Patron, DJ Iceman, DJ Skrewball, DJ No Mercy, DJ JBones, Alex Rossiter, Bud, BLM, Bonniewood Kings, & My girlfriend Jamie!!

Fatal Lucciauno- Announces release date for new album "Respect"

Amazing- ft. J.Pinder- Produced by Jake One

http://fatallucciauno.bandcamp.com/track/amazing-feat-j-pinder

(January 5, 2012 – Brooklyn, NY) Fatal Lucciauno is excited to announce the release of his new album, Respect. A follow-up to his 2007 project, The Only Forgotten Son, Respect will be released on February 21st via Sportn' Life Records.

Born in Chicago and raised in Seattle's Central District (a rough neighborhood nicknamed the Crime District), Fatal Lucciauno brings the perspective of his urban northwest upbringing to listeners, a unique style that weaves street tales while striving to remain spiritually honest. "With this record I wanted to show the musical integrity that drives me to be the best at what I do," says Fatal. "The music is a safe haven for my thoughts and fears. I finally feel free, spiritually, so my creative drive is scary. This album is a jump-start to a new frontier in 'gangsta rap.' I truly believe it will bring an uprising to my northwest hip-hop community."

For Lucciauno, Respect is also an album to show and prove, and the title draws directly from that goal. "I want people to respect my artistic value," Lucciauno explains, "as well as my ability to crush any beat handed to me." Tracks like "Adolf" do just that, "a modern-day twist on a regime change in street politics," according to Lucciauno, that puts on display his ability to bring together concepts and lyricism.

Elsewhere, the album's first single, "Amazing," continues to show off Fatal's diversity as an artist. Produced by Jake One and featuring a chorus from rapper J. Pinder, also both Seattleites, "Amazing" contains a filtered and chopped sample with airy keys and echoing, soulful vocals throughout. For Lucciauno, the song's inspiration came from the undying love bred by nostalgia. "I have love for my community, no matter what I've seen," he notes of his beloved Central District neighborhood. "It's cool to want nice things – that's what the struggle was for – but don't forget where you come from."]]>

Q&A's
------
What is your name, what do you go by?

Names Zac. Zac Pier. Code name: Lifik.

Where in the puget sound do you reside?

All over really. But, my hearts in Kent and that's where I am at the moment.

Do you think rappers will ever start taking up instruments? Is it necessary?

I think it's healthy for 'em to produce a lil music of their own. You know, maybe get down on a lil piano or hit a drum or two. I don't think it's necessary to pick up an oboe or a trombone and join a marching band though.

What do you think neighboring places such as California, Vancouver feel about the northwest music scene?

They love our shxt.

Where in your music career do you think you'll be five years from now?

I don't know. I trying to break into producing though. We'll see where that leads...

When do you think we'll see more hip-hop/rock line-ups? Are the scenes too divided?

I've always thought of it as taboo. It' okay to sample rock music, but to go full on rappin'/buttrockin' makes it hard to keep fans interested from both sides of the fence. In other words pick one genre and kill it.

How was your Christmas? Would you ever make a holiday rap album?

My Xmas was good. The kids all got what they wanted. As for a Xmas rap album I would rather put on a Rock album.

Why did you submit this particular track to the Puget Sound Mixtape?

It was hard to pick because ALL of my songs are amazing really. But I felt this one had tremendous energy and stood out from the rest. I cant help but head bang.

Do you have any shout-outs you want to give out?

Burger King! You had out that California Whopper out for a bit, then you took it away. I ain't mad atcha. I just want it back!

DJ ICE MAN (HOST OF PSM VOL.3)
----------
Q&A's
----------
What's your name, where in the puget sound do you reside?
I am known as dj iceman and i live in lakewood

Who or what inspired you to become a DJ?
My uncle A.D. is the one that first inspired me to dj

What year did you decide to take your craft professionally?
I got my first setup in 1982 and di my first block party in 1983 i became a full working dj in 1989

Where is the R&B scene out here, how come there are less singers performing live?
I really dont know where the r&b scene is lol i only know of one singer and thats violet
i just think there have to be more venues out here for that

When do you think lyrics will be more focused on than the music, do the people really want that anyway?
I think is is a focus it just depends on who you listen to.

How important is working the crowd?
Its VERY important! if you cant motivate a crowd then you lost half the battle

What do you think of the south sound having a DJ pool system with hits/mp3/vinyl from the local artists? Do you think it

can be done?
I think its a great idea not only for artists and djs bot as a gauge for history. i think there are a lot of classics that have been forgotten because they have not been cataloged and kept up on

You're a transplant from New York, how did they do local music different; live, promoting, radio?
Theres a lot more people in new york so a artist dosent have to go far for support take someone like nas,hes from
queensbridge projects there is under 200,000 people in queenbridge alone!! so that fanbase is built in.then it will travel
to other boroughs so its a lock from jump its just a matter of working the grind and getting the right connect.

Many people don't know you also have a background as an MMA fighter and coach, what skills do you think that adds to your craft?
Its really helped me with my focus.

What do you say to an artist who comes to you with a demo at a live show?
If im at a show the best i can do is listen to it when i get home. but im not in the position to break an artist big out here like a super sam or dj deniero. but if i like it i will definitely support.

Do you think hip hop is evolving or devolving?
I think a little of both the quality of underground hip-hip is still at a high level but its the mainstream that has saturated the market to such a degree you have to really search, or should i say want to search for quality hip-hop. you have radio stations today playing the same 10-15 crappy songs all day but most people instead of trying to find the alternative will just sit and listen to the radio to the point where they get to like what they hear after awhile.

Where and when can we catch you live currently?
I dj wayback Wednesdays and fallback Fridays at E&Js in lakewood, 3rd word Thursdays (the third Thursday of every month) at hells kitchen Saturdays from 1-4 at rumrunners for the A.B.L. battles and when weather permits,Sundays at the graffitti
garages (9th and Broadway) for the northwest mc leauge cyphers.

Any shout-outs?
Yeah of course you (sic-ill) the whole darkxxide clan, josh riseberg, kept see the league of extraordinary emcees, the northwest mc league, the alliance battle league, gonzo fam, blunose music, goodhood, synrgy ent and the whole northwest movement for showing me love!

Download/Listen to Abom Kid - "Addiction" ft. Cam The Viking
http://www.zshare.net/audio/97403792aa22ec30/

---------
Q&A's
---------

•What is your name, what do you go by?
I go by "Abom Kid"; originally "T.A.K." -an acronym for "Tacoma's Abominable Kid"
I shortened it to be more distinguishable.

•Where in the puget sound do you reside?
As of right right now, Tumwater -just outside of Olympia

•Are there any famous people you can identify yourself with?
Hmm.... I've never been asked this question before; nor thought about it. If I had to pick someone in the hip-hop scenario, I would say closely similar to Tech N9ne. Not style-wise with lyrics and delivery, but how open-minded and consistent he is. I don't think you can pin a finger on me for a certain style. I'm aggressive, but at the same time, can make a smooth and inspirational sounding track.

•Who or what is your greatest inspiration?
My greatest inspiration right now is all this local talent I'm surrounded by. I don't listen to mainstream anymore because I feel it is extremely watered-down. I love what everybody around me is doing; they all push me to work harder and broaden my horizons.

•What cds, mixtapes, mp3s are you currently playing in your playlist?
Instrumentals; I will listen to instrumentals all day. I'm constantly looking for that "perfect" beat for my next track. Other than that, I listen to my own tracks -- only to critique myself and see what I need to improve on.
Some local CDs I am currently bumping are Shoa Sosa, Mike "G", Awall, Josh Rizeberg, Neema, Gonzo Family, and Blue Nose Music, along with many more...

•Where did you live growing up?
I was born and raised in Tacoma, growing up between 84th-56th and McKinley, 38th and Thompson (next to Lincoln Park), and have bounced around everywhere from Spanaway, Hilltop, Southend, Northend, University Place, etc.

•When do you find time to work on music?
Any free moment I have to spare; on the bus, walking, in the gym, on break at work, etc. My room IS my studio, so I usually work on projects before going to sleep.

•Why did you submit this particular track to the Puget Sound Mixtape?
Its a different turn away from the local hip-hop scene, I think. It has the rock-feel, mixed with inspiration and sadness, touched up with my rap and delivery. Based on my own experiences and troubles I have gone through with addiction to drugs/alcohol.

•Do you have any shout-outs you want to give out?
There is so many people I want to give a shoutout to, but I wouldn't know where to begin..... I want to thank EVERYBODY that I have worked with and the ones I will work with in the future. All of my fans and supporters, and you for accepting my submission and requesting this interview.

The inspiration for the music comes from the late great Heavy D (R.I.P.) and my Uncle the King Of Funk George Clinton.
